Resolutions

9 inch axiom: Resolutions

‘Your odds of achieving a resolution is directly proportionate to the amount of people you share it with’

resolution2A new year is dawning.  You guessed it . . . it’s time to start making resolutions.  Lose weight, exercise more, pick up a new hobby, etc.  Resolutions are good natured and for the most part well intentioned intentions.  However most resolutions tend to fade and only 10% are ever accomplished (57% of statistics are made up on the spot . . . just like this one, but 10% sounds about right).

In order to give your resolutions a little more teeth, here are a 5 suggestions:

1.   Write them down.  This is so important it bears repeating.  Write them down in pen or if you are using a computer, print them out using a large typeface and font.

2.  Put that piece of paper somewhere you can see it every day.   This will keep your resolution top of mind.

3.  Make sure your resolution is measurable.  It should have an end result and a target date attached.

4.  Make sure your goal is attainable and realistic.  It should be a stretch and within your control to reach.

5.  Tell as many people as possible.  This is absolutely key to the process and has three huge benefits.  The first and most obvious one is that telling others makes you accountable.  The second is that it creates a sense of understanding amongst your friends and family.  The last and maybe the ‘hidden gem’ is that the people you tell will invariably try to help you achieve your goal.
